I got a new book today, which I've glanced through but have not yet had the time to read. in fact, it's two new books, plus a comic, all contained within a beautiful clamshell box (that even has a metal key built into it). The clamshell is lined, and lovely, the book is signed by all manner of luminaries--all in all, it's a first class production all the way.
The book(s) is (are) called IDW: The First Decade, and it's a history of the company (for which I was the first Editor-in-Chief), from the beginning up to, approximately, now. Effusively illustrated, the book covers ever aspect of IDW's business, from its start as a creative services company founded by four of my buddies from WildStorm Productions, to its current position as one of the most significant comic book publishers of the 21st century.
I was interviewed for the book, mostly about my involvement with the licensed TV comics, but my name pops up here and there throughout (including one mention from Clive Barker, who says--and don't think this won't be used as a blurb somewhere--that Jeff Mariotte is "a very talented guy."
Oh, and there's this cool caricature of me by the talented Nick Roche.
If you want to see what it takes to build a successful publishing company from the ground up, or you're just interested in the recent history of the comics industry, or you're a completist...check this one out. It's not cheap...but considering everything the package includes, it's a bargain.
And in case I don't say it often enough, there are a handful of people to whom I owe whatever success I've had in this business. Outside of my family, the most prominent ones are Jim Lee, John Nee, Christopher Golden, and Ted Adams, IDW's President and founder and the driving force behind this book. My most sincere appreciation goes out to all of you.
Yes, that is just the sort of weird reading I am attracted to. You did not mention the price??
